The Oldest Bakery In Texas is a Blast From the Past
According to MySanAntonio.com, the building that bakery sits in is like getting into a time machine with few upgrades made since they moved in. In fact, every recipe remains the same since 1868 except for the newer pastries they have added since their opening. The bakery was opened by Alsatian immigrant Edouard Naegelin who, according to MySanAntonio, arrived in New Braunfels at the age of 19 with just a bag of flour.
Naegelin eventually opened a bakery in New Braunfels and moved into the current space in 1870. Three generations later, Granzin's grandfather, Wilburn, purchased Naegelin's in the 1980s.
"Everything is authentic German," Granzin said. "That's our main goal, keeping history alive."
