Lubbock Woman Arrested on Arson Charges After Dumpster Fires

A string of fires in Lubbock prompted a quick investigation into the incident before a suspect was soon arrested. On Wednesday, July 20, the Lubbock Fire Department was dispatched starting at 3:45 p.m. to multiple fires in a relatively close area to one another. The fires were discovered on many residents fences and in alley dumpsters.

KAMC news reports that the fires ranged from the 2000 block of 38th Street to the 1700 block of 44th Street. A woman suspected of starting the string of fires was soon located. 33-year-old Yvette Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Hernandez was charged with:

• Six separate charges of Arson
• Arson of Habitation or Place of Worship
• Arson Reckless Damage of a Building Recklessly Causing Bodily Injury or Death
• Possession of a Controlled Substance

Lubbock Fire and Rescue asks anyone with information in regards to the fires to contact the Fire Marshal's Office at 806-775-2646.

As per the publishing of this article Hernandez remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a combined bond totaling $125,000 but due to the Possession of a Controlled Substance charge is currently on hold without bond. If convicted on all charges Hernandez could face anywhere from two years to life in prison.
