How Can You Visit America’s Semiquincentennial Exhibits Absolutely Free in Lubbock?
I don't know if you knew already, but 2026 happens to be the 250th year since the Declaration of Independence was signed. Libraries all over Texas have banded together to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and the Lubbock Public Library is no exception.

In recognition of this turning point in our nation's history, the Lubbock Public Library has extended an invitation to their brand new and completely free Texas America250 exhibit.

Even though opportunities will be available all year long, you don't want to miss out since this exhibit is only temporary. After all, it was loaned to us from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).
The purpose of the Texas America250 exhibit is to highlight those key treasures that make Texas one-of-a-kind over the past 250 years. Because, as amazing as America is, we can't forget about the rich history that the Lone Star State has as well.
Library Director Hannah Stewart couldn't be more excited to share this traveling exhibit to our community:
This is a great way for Texans of all ages to learn more about the state's role in U.S. history and explore some of our most treasured documents, photographs and artifacts.
Never Heard of Texas America250? No Worries!
The Texas America250 Commission, formed back in 2021 during the 87th Texas Legislature, was created to celebrate the semiquincentennial (fancy word meaning 250 years) and how Texas fits into America's history.

The free exhibit will be open to the general public throughout the entire year of 2026. The catch is that it will be rotating across five different libraries in Lubbock.

- Jan. - March: Godeke Branch Library, 5034 Frankford Avenue
- April - June: Groves Branch Library, 5520 19th Street
- July - Sept.: Mahon Library, 1306 9th Street
- July 4th: Special viewing at Fourth on Broadway and the Panhandle South Plains Fairgrounds
- Oct. - Dec.: Patterson Branch Library, 1836 Parkway Drive
