Billboard in Lubbock Goes Crazy, Puts On A Light Show for Drivers

My drive home at night us normally pretty routine. There's nothing exciting about it and by the time I leave the radio station in Lubbock after the show, there really isn't much traffic to complain about.

As I was driving home Monday night a billboard caught my eye. Not because it was new or had something witty written on it, but because somehow, the lights on the billboard were malfunctioning. The lights weren't just turning off and on, it's like I was watching some type of outdoor night club on the Clovis Highway.

When I got close enough to see the billboard lighting up the surrounding area, I did what others did, I went a little out of my way to get a better look at the dance party billboard. Here's video of the billboard.

The billboard is located on the Clovis Highway between North Frankford and North Slide Road. Was it distracting? Yes. Was it kind of funny? Yes. Were other people taking pictures of the billboard? You bet.

I've driven past the billboard many times. It's for Attorney Davis W. Smith...aka the "Gorilla". And normally the sign is lit up, but never in dance party mode. Obviously something malfunctioned. But it did get a lot of people's attention.

It wouldn't surprise me if the issue is fixed soon as it's possible a sign malfunctioning like that could cause some issues. At least it wasn't located on the Loop. That could have been a disaster.
