Shipment of Guns, Drugs, and Ammo Seized Along Texas Border
Spanning two separate seizures, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intercepted a total of 16 firearms, 182 rounds of ammunition, and 20 pounds of cocaine.
Let's Start with the Weapon Shipment Seizure
On Monday, March 17, CBP officers stopped a 2006 Ford F-350 van at the Del Rio Port of Entry for additional inspection after it triggered their spidey-senses that something was wrong.
Sure enough, through the help of some puppers from the K9 unit, officers discovered a total of 16 firearms, 26 magazines and 182 rounds of ammunition. Three AR-style rifles were included in the discovery, along with .50 caliber rounds.
Del Rio Port Director Liliana Flores said that this is just one example of border agents fulfilling their duty to protect citizens from potential harm.
Large weapons seizures like these, coupled with ongoing coordination between state and federal law enforcement partners exemplify our continued efforts to help keep our border communities safe and secure, on both sides of the river.
What About the Drug Seizure Along the Texas Border?
This one happened on Sunday, March 16 at the Eagle Pass International Bridge. It was here where border agents sent a 2015 Chevy Equinox to secondary inspection. It turns out that the car had a dirty little secret.
Officers discovered eight packages totaling 19.79 pounds of a white substance alleged to be cocaine. The estimated street value? A modest $264,335.
The alleged drugs were confiscated and the driver, a 24-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested by Homeland Security.
