Beloved Doctor and Mother Murdered at Home, Son Main Suspect

A Lubbock man is currently in police custody after the death of his mother. The Lubbock Police Department was dispatched to the 4500 block of 20th Street on Thursday, August 10, on reports of a domestic disturbance. It was at the residence in that area that police discovered the body of 63-year-old Dr. Brigitte Curtis in the backyard of the home but she was not the only one at the residence.

The other person in the home was 24-year-old Peter Martinelli, Dr. Brigitte Curtis' son, who is accused of stabbing his mother multiple times. Dr. Brigitte Curtis was believed to have sustained serious injuries from the stabbing but it wasn't until EMS arrived that they pronounced her deceased on the scene.

Dr. Brigitte Curtis was a psychiatrist in Lubbock who received her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Curtis specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry with StarCare who released a statement on Friday, August 11,

Many people have taken to social media to voice their grief at the loss of Dr. Curtis. People remember her as a woman and doctor who cared about her patients and just wanted to help others.

As per the publishing of this article, Martinelli is not listed in the Lubbock County Detention Center. Martinelli was originally charged for Evading Arrest and Murder with a $500,000 bond.
