FBI Director Emphasizes Critical Infrastructure Protection

It wasn’t just Arrington talking up the collaboration. FBI Director Kash Patel was also stressed the importance of safeguarding U.S. infrastructure. Patel said:

Protecting our critical infrastructure is essential to national security. Texas is helping lead the charge with the Critical Infrastructure Security Institute at the Texas Tech University System. Today, we sign a landmark agreement that will benefit the entire country and foster the kind of innovation needed to detect and counter threats from foreign and domestic adversaries.

Texas Tech Leaders Applaud the Partnership

Texas Tech’s leaders shared the excitement, too. Chancellor Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., called the partnership “a testament to our universities’ commitment to identifying pressing global needs and creating innovative, collaborative, and sustainable solutions.” Meanwhile, President Lawrence Schovanec emphasized the opportunity for students and researchers alike: “This collaboration builds on our research strengths and our commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders who will protect and serve our country.”

FBI Praises Academic Collaboration

The FBI’s Chad Yarbrough added context on the agency’s perspective:

Working with academic partners like the Texas Tech University System is one of the ways the FBI seeks to advance cybersecurity and protect critical infrastructure. We appreciate the forward-leaning posture of the TTU System and look forward to continued partnership to better protect U.S. national security.

West Texas Takes a Frontline Role

For Lubbock, this is more than just another university announcement — it’s a sign that West Texas innovation is playing a front-line role in national defense. With Texas Tech, Angelo State University, and the FBI combining forces, the Hub City is now a hub not just for education, but for cutting-edge security research that could impact the entire country.

In short: when it comes to protecting America’s critical infrastructure, West Texas isn’t just along for the ride — it’s driving the bus.
