If you’re the type that wants to take care of something but doesn’t want the responsibility of owning an animal, house plants will be right up your alley.

“But I can never keep plants alive!”

I hear you loud and clear. We have all killed our fair share of house plants whether it is due to a lack of knowledge or sheer neglect. Either way, don’t let that stop you from turning things around and becoming the plant parent you want to be.

Where do I start?

I suggest starting off with some low maintenance, durable options like snake plants or spider plants. I’ve also had a great time with pothos, philodendron, and ZZ plants.

It is also important to learn about each plant you get and cater to their needs. Some plants need more light, higher humidity, are drought resistant, the list goes on and on. So, find out what plant fits your needs and go from there.

What if I want a challenge?

If you’ve had some easy plants and want to move onto a bigger challenge, then you can definitely do so. I suggest checking out the Lubbock Houseplant Lovers Facebook group for information and even plants you can buy from other local plant lovers.

Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this is a great group for all Lubbock houseplant enthusiasts. You can show off your pants, ask questions, and see what is for sale around town.
