Easy as Pie Campaign Kicks Off Season with Pie Eating Contest
The 32nd annual Easy as Pie campaign with Lubbock's Meal on Wheels and United Supermarkets has officially kicked off! To start the Easy as Pie campaign United Supermarkets and Meals on Wheels hosted their annual pie eating contest with United Family employees and local Lubbock celebrities in attendance. This year I was chosen to participate and represent Townsquare Media Lubbock to kick off the Easy as Pie campaign with my fellow media companions and amazing United Supermarkets employees.
Slice of Pie!
This was a very tough pie eating contest as each contestant was served a quarter of a pie and each slice was measured to make sure they were all equal. There really is no way to prepare for this event so as all the contestants waited to start and there was a sort of electricity in the air.
Then in an instant we were given the go ahead and devoured our ways through the delicious pies. The words of encouragement did fill the air as the pie filled my stomach as I neared close to the end of my pie and could taste victory. Unfortunately I was beat by Thomas from United Supermarkets and I will say I tied for second with Payton from KLBK but very much loved meeting new and familiar faces to kick off the start of a good cause.
Easy as Pie!
The Easy as Pie campaign will last through November 22nd with all proceeds benefiting the Lubbock Meals on Wheels. Anyone interested in participating just needs to go to any United Supermarkets, Market Street, and Amigo's location where they can donate $5 when checking out at the register. After donating $5 you will then receive a voucher for a free Mrs. Smith pie, of your choice, that you can redeem in store at any time and is a great way to help those in the community.
Lubbock's Meals on Wheels provides meals to over 950 people that are homebound, unable to prepare well balanced meals, or are just unable to prepare any meals at all. They also offer a pet program, reading materials (books and magazines), weekend sacks, holiday meals and even emergency meals during times of extreme weather when someone might not be able to receive their regularly delivered meal.
