This Popular Superfood Was Recalled for Botulism Risk
Superfoods capable of giving you botulism is exactly why I can’t get healthy, at least that’s what I’ll tell myself this week. Superfoods are great, I mean it’s in the name, but this week, a popular superfood brand voluntarily recalled their products for a pretty rare but dark reason.
Diva Fam Inc. announced a voluntary recall of all flavors and batches of its True Sea Moss brand Sea Moss Gel Superfood after regulators raised concerns about how the product was made and monitored. The recall affects every flavor, size, and batch manufactured before January 9, 2026.
According to the company and regulators, the issue isn’t a single contaminated batch — it’s the lack of required regulatory authorization and temperature and pH monitoring records. That matters because improperly controlled pH foods can allow dangerous bacteria to grow, including organisms that can produce toxins linked to botulism.
Botulism is rare, but it’s no joke. It can attack the nervous system and cause symptoms like:
- General weakness or dizziness
- Double vision
- Trouble speaking or swallowing
- Difficulty breathing in severe cases
The good news: no illnesses have been reported so far.
Products affected
All True Sea Moss Sea Moss Gel Superfood products in 16 oz glass jars, including flavors like Mango, Pineapple, Elderberry, Wildcrafted, Blue Spirulina & Raspberry, Strawberry, Soursop, and more.
Good news, if you’re in the Crossroads, neither of the H-E-B locations sold this particular brand. If you’ve bought sea moss gel online or from a small retailer recently, this is one to double-check.
What consumers should do
- Stop using the product immediately
- Follow the retailer’s instructions for return or disposal
- Contact Diva Fam if you have questions
