When I think about the most ruthless professions, legal work immediately comes to mind. However, a new study revealed that’s not the most ruthless profession in Texas. The answer might surprise you.

As an on-air personality and content creator, I’ll be the first to admit that I have it made. It beats the hell out of working for a living. That said, it can be as cut-throat as any industry. But if you mind your p’s and q’s and put in the work, you’ll most likely be okay.

The website YourFreeCareerTest surveyed 3,000 respondents to see how cut-throat they consider their career field to be, and the results were eye-opening. In particular, call me naive, but I didn’t realize just how ruthless the healthcare industry is. Healthcare dominated the list with workers in 13 states identifying it as the most ruthless industry.

The Shocking Industry Texans Say Is the Most Brutal

Not Texas, though. The Lone Star State is a bit of an outlier, with retail being named the most ruthless industry in the study. Ohio and Vermont also named retail the most ruthless profession in the state. I knew customers could be ruthless, but I didn’t realize how cut-throat the retail industry is.

My takeaway from the study is that, as a Texan, no matter how ruthless your career may seem, at least you don’t work in retail. Unless, of course, you do. In that case, better you than me.
