Texas Tech University puts Lubbock on the map. Where would we even be without it? We aren't exactly a top-10 vacation destination in the Lone Star State. Far from it. Tech students keep our city fresh and interesting, support our local businesses, and bring a special vibe to our community. We owe our youthful spirit to the students that enroll there each year. Sure, you might find a drunk one passed out in your bushes from time to time, but for the most part, they make us proud...and we have a lot to be proud of because we've got a ton of students!

So, how many people go to Texas Tech each year? How drastically would our population change without them?

Lubbock's current population is somewhere around 265,000, give or take. Texas Tech enrolls roughly 40,000 students each year. So, duh, our population would decrease significantly without them.

Our hearts might get a little bit smaller too, not to mention the huge hit it would take on our bars, restaurants, and liquor stores. Tech students keep those places thriving.

To put 40,000 students into perspective, imagine the entire city of Weatherford, Texas just up and vanished. That would be close to the equivalent of life without Texas Tech. Pretty wild to think about.

Anyway, just a little food for thought!
