Texans have seen their fair share of major hailstorms. I remember watching massive chunks of hail smash through the skylights at our house as a kid, showering my brother and me in little pieces of glass. We never thought hail would actually come through the windows like that. Neither of us ever made the mistake of sitting in the living room during a storm again. Once was enough.

A major hailstorm came through central Texas last night. Residents of Johnson County sent some insane photos to their local news station of hail 5 inches wide, the length of a DVD. I thought that was pretty crazy, and then noticed reports of hail up to 6.25 inches from Thursday night's storm in the same area. Even crazier!

So, what's the largest hailstone on record in Texas?

According to Spectrum News, the largest hailstone in Texas was 6.40 inches. It happened in Hondo back on April 28th, 2021. The hail was so large, that the National Weather Service scale used to measure hail doesn't even go that large. It stops at 5 inches. It's sporadic to see hail any larger than that. Typically, hail in Texas doesn't even go beyond 4 inches.

Do you have any crazy photos of huge hailstorms or major hail damage that you'd like to share with the rest of us? I'd love to check them out.
