Texas Parents Outraged After Children Dosed By Teachers With Sleep Aid
Parents of Spring ISD students are justifiably outraged after one brave little girl came forward, stating that teachers were placing "sleepy stickers" on her and her classmates' arms, according to KHOU 11.
The preschoolers were allegedly given Klova brand sleep patches. According to the manufacturer's website, these patches contain "Ashwagandha, Melatonin, Hops, Valerian Root, and more" and are intended for people 18 and older.
In response, four Spring ISD staff members have been placed on administrative leave while police investigate the incident. The school district released a statement saying:
"The safety of our students is our highest priority and we take every allegation of misconduct seriously."

4-year-old Layne Luviano snuck one of the stickers home to show her parents, alerting them that teachers put the stickers on her and her classmates to make them fall asleep. Her parents had noticed changes in her behavior- she would be wide awake in the middle of the night.
Her parents then reached out to other adults with children in the classroom, who asked their children about the patch. The children confirmed that they had been dosed with the sleep aides as well.

Another parent noticed her child was crying often, and not eating his lunches.
We all know that napping and being sleepy/ groggy during the day can affect how we sleep at night. Children who are unable to get enough good sleep can experience adverse effects like:
"Problems with attention, learning, and behavior at home and at school. Poor sleep can also affect a child’s growth, blood sugar levels, and immune system," according to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
Clearly, this case highlights the importance of teaching children that it is never okay for an adult to ask them to keep a secret about their bodies. Not only was this unethical, it could have been deadly if a child had a severe allergy to any of the ingredients.
