Heritage Business That Beautified Lubbock For 60 Years Is Calling It Quits

One of Lubbock's most beautiful shopping experiences will soon close its doors forever. Holland Gardens (3739 50th St) will close this February after 60 years of beautifying Lubbock. The family has decided to retire and is currently hosting a huge sale with many items 50- 60 % off. From their Facebook:

A family owned business, that was started by Wayne & Ann Holland. After graduating from Texas Tech University in April 1965. We have come from a humble beginning with just us two. We are happy to be apart of everyones gardening and christmas needs!

I've always cherished the Holland Garden's experience- the building itself has a deliciously clean plant and soil smell that I find so deeply relaxing. Holland Gardens always had such stunning Christmas displays as well. And who could forget the magical and impressive topiaries for sale outside?

It's a loss of Lubbock culture, to be sure. But you can't blame anyone for knowing when to call it quits. We all have to make the best decisions for our own lives.

Holland Gardens joins other heritage Lubbock businesses in calling it quits- 70-year-old Tom and Bingo's BBQ is closing as well, and The Disabled Veterans Thrift Store closed after 50 years of operation at the end of December.

Truly, Lubbock is growing and changing very rapidly, but it's heartbreaking to see so many heritage businesses disappearing forever. All we can do is cherish what we have for as long as we have it, because nothing lasts forever, not even in good ol' Lubbock, Texas.
