In Lubbock, Romance Lives In The Little Things
Forget handwritten poetry and candlelit dinners. In Lubbock, sometimes love looks a little different. It's much less rom-com and more "I filled up your gas tank because the wind today is straight-up disrespectful."
Around here, romance is practical.
For example, if someone texts you, "Made it home?" that's not just some silly small talk. That's love. If they will scrape ice off your windshield before work in the winter, and tinker around with an air conditioner on the fritz in the summer? Marriage material, my friend. Offer you the last tortilla chip? Soulmate stuff, my guy.
In bigger cities, someone might send you roses. But in Lubbock, they deliver the bouquet themselves. And, if you're lucky, the flowers are replaced with a bouquet of jalapeno poppers from Jake's Backroom. Just saying...

Someone who really loves you will sit through your kid's t-ball game in 50 mph wind. They'll come over and help you move, even after they know you're a hoarder. They'll scoop you for a ride around on the loop for no reason other than needing a little heart-to-heart.
The Lubbock love language is subtle, and it sounds like:
- "Text me when you get there."
- "Do you need anything from United?"
- Filling up your gas tank without being told.
- Checking your tire pressure.
- Saving you the good parking spot.
- Taking you to a concert even though they work at 6 am the next day.
None of it's flashy, but it's steady, and it's definitely love.
Maybe that's the point, ya know? In West Texas, it isn't always about being loud. It's about loyalty and showing up even when it's inconvenient. It's about holding the door open when the wind is blowing it off the hinges. Splitting the queso and not keeping score of who grabbed the most loaded chips. Stuff like that.
No grand gestures are actually required. If your significant other makes you feel like you aren't doing enough for them, maybe they aren't the one...
Just be there for them. That's how you love someone in the Hub City.
