FDA Raises Recall On Cake Mix Sold In Texas To Highest Risk Level
FDA Raises Cake Mix Recall to Highest Risk Level in Nationwide Alert from Texas Producer
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has upgraded the recall of certain cake and bread mixes to a Class I risk level, indicating a reasonable probability that the products could cause serious illness or death, particularly for people with milk allergies. This action comes after federal regulators discovered that key allergens were not declared on the ingredient labels of bulk baking mixes.

What Class I Risk Means for Public Safety
A Class I recall is the most serious type issued by the FDA, used when there is a real possibility that consuming a product could result in severe adverse health consequences or even death. Undeclared major allergens like milk can trigger reactions ranging from vomiting and hives to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition. This classification reflects both the severity of possible reactions and the importance of accurate labeling for people with food allergies.
Who Is at Risk
Milk allergies are common, especially in children, and exposure to even small amounts of milk can trigger severe reactions in susceptible individuals. Because these mixes were distributed broadly, anyone who consumes baked goods made with them should be cautious and check ingredient sources carefully.
What to Do If You’re Affected
If you are a bakery owner, restaurant operator, or food service manager who received these mixes, stop using them immediately and verify lot numbers against the FDA recall notice. Consumers with milk allergies should avoid products that may have been prepared with the affected mixes and contact the supplier for guidance on disposal or return.
