At the beginning of March, the Biden-Harris Administration Proposes First-Ever National Standard to Protect Communities from PFAS in Drinking Water.

According to the EPA, "the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking a major step to protect public health from PFAS pollution, leveraging the latest science and complementing state efforts to limit PFAS by proposing to establish legally enforceable levels for six PFAS known to occur in drinking water."

According to KCBD, Lubbock water officials say the city's tap water is safe to drink even with this new federal limit for six chemical compounds known as PFAS.

These PFAS have been found at air force bases like Reese Center, and in groundwater but we don't need to worry because all of our water supplies come from areas that aren’t very urbanized, like Lake Alan Henry and Bailey County Well Field.

Officials say the likelihood of us having anything that’s detectable in our system is pretty low but now they can also check for these chemicals at such small levels. With technology changing even in the last couple of years they can detect a lot more in the water that we use to not be able to.

The City of Lubbock has started checking for these forever chemicals. They get a baseline and then can compare to see if they have any detections in the water.

According to the EPA reports these chemicals can cause cancer if people are exposed to them for a long period of time.

If you want to give your opinion you can do that here for the EPA.
