If you've driven down Milwaukee Ave., you may have noticed that two new pizza joints will be right now the street from each other. It has me wondering if this is going to start a war. If a great pizza war does break out, I'm calling being a judge right now; I can send in my credentials.

Dario's Pizza & Calzone is owned by Dario Yocum, who formerly owned the One Guy off University Ave. It's exciting to see he's opened his own place. He just recently opened a location at 6810 Milwaukee Ave. within the last month, and people are going crazy for it.

But I also noticed that a new place called Westside Pizza will be opening within walking distance of Dario's?

Westside Pizza is going to be opening up at 6620 Milwaukee Ave. in Suite 800, hopefully in February 2022. While I don't know much about this new spot, I do see they have a lot of locations, so it might be really good.

Currently on their website, it looks like they only really have locations in Northwestern states, including Washington and Idaho. The closest location to Lubbock, Texas is actually in Utah.

My question for you is: how do you decide which one you'll go to first, and do you think this nearby competition will help improve both restaurants? It seems to me that places work a little harder and do better for the community if there's a little friendly competition.

We'll know in February if the two pizzerias end up being friends, having a fun competition or launching a full-blown war. But I'm always up to try something new, so I'm counting the days until Westside Pizza opens its doors in Lubbock.

Remember: if you know of any places opening soon or brand new to Lubbock that you want me to check out, reach out at: kelsee.pitman@townsquaremedia.com.
