A Facebook page dubbed 'Save Tech Terrace' voiced their concern over the weekend in a sponsored ad about a proposed rezoning near Roscoe Wilson Elementary, which would allow a big apartment building to be constructed in the neighborhood.

The post claims that the rezoning would result in "an increase of at least 600 cars traveling around our school and neighborhood every day."

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Lubbock's Planning & Zoning Commission voted 6-2 in favor of the project. It's now up to the City Council to approve the plans this month.

What do people living in Lubbock's historic Tech Terrace neighborhood actually have to say about the proposed rezoning? So far, it doesn't look like anyone is thrilled.

Here are a couple of comments from the post:

"They need to focus on many other needs in Lubbock. Besides trying to take the Tech Terrace and Roscoe Wilson." - Rosie Juarez Carrillo

"They need to build on the land they have. Tech Terrace needs to stay. Most students end up living off campus eventually, and commute." - Rita DeBord

"They should leave it alone." - Gary Jimenez

We contacted Save Tech Terrace about their endeavor to raise awareness about the proposal at hand and received this message:

“Save Tech Terrace has been trying to get the message out about protecting Lubbock neighborhoods from commercial encroachment and keeping residential neighborhoods safe from rezoning that can irreparably harm not just Tech Terrace but any neighborhood. In our case, it’s a high-density residential facility that would overwhelm our neighborhood’s infrastructure and historical charm. Also, the amount of traffic that would have to use our neighborhood streets would inundate areas that are already congested. Our hope is that our city council will see these issues and vote against the rezoning.”

What do you think about rezoning and adding an apartment to the Tech Terrace neighborhood? We'd love to hear from other members of the community. Please feel free to comment on this article on our Facebook page.
