The Texas Sex Offender Registration Program, organized by the Texas Department of Transportation, is a way to find sex offenders near you.

The Texas Sex Offender Registration Program (Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure) is a sex offender registration and public notification law designed to protect the public from sex offenders. This law requires adult and juvenile sex offenders to register with the local law enforcement authority of the city they reside in or, if the sex offender does not reside in a city, with the local law enforcement authority of the county they reside in. There are three ways to find sex offenders in your area. The public can look up their address, registrant’s name or their higher education institution.

Registration involves the sex offender providing the local law enforcement authority with information that includes, but is not limited to, the sex offender's name and address, a color photograph, and the offense the offender was convicted of or adjudicated for. Registered sex offenders are required to periodically report to the local law enforcement authority to verify the accuracy of the registration information and to promptly report certain changes in the information as those changes occur.

A sex offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution.

Sex offenders from other states must register in Texas if they work, reside or go to school in the state.

The public registry shows the sex offender’s risk level rated from low (level one) to high (level three). The registry will show the latest address or school the sex offender attends. The website will also give basic information about their offenses.

You can also look up your address, or a certain area if you want to see if there are any of them near or around you.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
