George Strait’s ‘Codigo’ Is a Homage to His Favorite Tequila [Listen]
George Strait's "Codigo" is his first new song in three years, and it's an upbeat tune that carries a carefree spirit.
Though the calendar says it's almost winter, Strait will transport you to a tropical getaway with "Codigo," a song devoted to his beverage of choice.
Strait sings about the woman he loves — and the tequila he loves just as much — with lyrics: "the perfect recipe / Baby, you and me / The secret's been found / Let's pour one right now / I'm talkin' 'bout Código / I take it with me everywhere I go / Best tequila, baby, don't you know."
George Strait Has One of Country Music's Sexiest Voices
A pianist tickles the ivories and the sound of fiddle and steel guitar unite on the lively melody. Strait pulled together a dream team in son Bubba Strait and longtime collaborator Dean Dillion to write "Codigo." It's a song infused with western flair. "Codigo" marks Strait's first single release since the title track off his album Cold Beer Conversation reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2015.
According to a press release, Strait is working on new music that's expected to be released in 2019. Until then, he'll perform a handful of live shows. His Strait to Vegas production takes over the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday (Dec. 7) and Saturday (Dec. 8), along with two nights in February of 2019. He's also scheduled for a one-night-only concert in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 30, 2019 and will headline the Buckeye Country Superfest in Ohio on June 8.
