This August 7th starts the week off for National Health Center Week and will continue on until August 13th. To kick start National Health Center Week the Lubbock Community Health Center, Inc. will be hosting a Back to School Summer Fun Fest at their Wellness Center on Saturday, August 6th.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and will have immunizations that children will need in preparation for back to school, immunizations will be administered after medical staff have received a shot record from a parent or legal guardian in order to receive any immunizations.

Every National Health Center Week has a theme and this year's theme is "Community Health Centers: The Chemistry for Strong Communities." The Community Health Center of Lubbock has eight different location across the Hub City along with two mobile units that go outside the city limits to serve residents in Crosby, Garza, Lynn and Terry counties. They also don't provide just immunizations but also provide pediatric, women's health and family medicine, dental, eye, and mental health services as well as primary medical services that are affordable or covered by Medicaid and/or Medicare.

In keeping with the theme of strong communities this event will also be an opportunity for children to obtain school supplies as well as simultaneously enjoying games, music and food free of charge from the Community Health Center. Children must be present at the Wellness Center, located at 1609 5th Street, to receive a backpack and any other school supplies which will be provided at no cost.
