While most of the world is attempting to get back to normal the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention won't let the American people get back to complete normal any time soon.

On Wednesday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that one of the only mask orders left in the nation would be extended by another two weeks. The Biden administration announced they would extend the mask requirement for those flying on planes and and riding on buses and trains for another 15 days according to the Dallas Morning News.

Why? So that way the government could have more time to study the BA.2 omicron subvariant.

The mask order was set to expire on April 18, but now it will be at least until May 3 before you can take your mask off when flying or walking around the airport.

This decision makes zero sense and is out of step with where we are as a nation. People are attending sporting events, festivals, going to movies, going out to eat, and trying to live normal lives. Even cruise ships are becoming more relaxed. And of course on the southern border, the Biden administration is dropping title 42, so no COVID emergency there. But if I go to the airport to catch a one hour flight? Apparently it is just too dangerous.

So why make people mask up on airplanes, trains, and buses? It's still about control and holding on to that control for as long as possible. While many of us are ready to get back to how things were, there many people who are not and many in the government who want to see how much longer they can push these type of measures. If I had to guess, the end of masking on planes won't end on May 3. Remember, it was always supposed to be two weeks to slow the spread, and we know how that is going.

As for me, I'll go with the rules and not pitch a fit. Besides, it's no one's fault at Southwest Airlines or at the Lubbock Preston Smith Airport. These regulations come from above. I'll just be drinking and snacking the whole time the next flight I'm on. Hey it worked when I flew to Hawaii!
