Suspect Fatally Shoots Lubbock Man Leaving Market Street on 19th Street
An early-morning shooting outside a Market Street in Lubbock on Sunday (November 8th, 2020) left one man dead and sparked a shooting spree that ended at Covenant Medical Center.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the shooting happened after 6 a.m. in the parking lot at the Market Street located 4425 19th Street. Police say that the suspect, 34-year-old Robert Baker, waited in the parking lot for 44-year-old Jason Halloway. As Halloway exited the store, Baker shot him.
Halloway was transported to University Medical Center after police officers arrived at the scene. He died at the hospital.
Before Baker was arrested by an off-duty Lubbock Police Department officer working security at Covenant, he reportedly fled the scene of the shooting in his vehicle. First, he drove to the United Express gas station at the other side of the parking lot and shot at the building. No one was wounded. Then, Baker drove to Covenant Medical Center and shot at the facade of the building. Nobody outside or inside the hospital was hurt.
The Lubbock Police Department said it was still investigating the shooting. No cause for the shooting has been released, nor is it clear why Baker drove over and shot at both a gas station and a nearby hospital.
As of the publication of this story, neither a mugshot of Robert Baker nor the charges against him were available from the Lubbock County Jail.
