Dunbar College Preparatory Academy Jumps from F to C Rating

After previously receiving an F grade from the Texas Education Agency and almost being repurposed by Lubbock ISD, Dunbar College Preparatory Academy has climbed all the way up to a C rating.
Dunbar previously has received Improvement Required ratings from the TEA multiple years in a row. After having received an F grade for the 5th year in a row, Dunbar was supposed to either close or have a board of managers take over the local elected school board.
However, the school was given a second chance via a last-minute bill in the State Legislature back in 2019 that kept the school from closing. Since then, a significant effort has been made to improve academic performances.
Dunbar has since implemented the Accelerated Campus Excellence turnaround program, which was required to keep the school open. Lubbock ISD Superintendent Kathy Rollo said back in 2019 that schools in bigger districts in the state, like Dallas ISD, have seen success with the program, so state lawmakers decided to see how it worked in other districts. With the help from State Representatives Dustin Burrows and John Frullo and State Senator Charles Perry, the education bill related to the turnaround plan was passed.
Now, in 2022, Dunbar College Preparatory Academy sits at a C rating. While this is a little way's off from a B rating the district was hoping to receive, this marks a vast improvement from previous years.
