Today, Wednesday, March 20th, at 10:50 a.m., Texas Tech University tested their TechAlert! emergency communications system.

The alerts are used to communicate with the university system in the case of emergency situations, class cancellations and delays. The test today also included audible outdoor sirens, so there's no need to panic; it was only a test.

In addition to the TechAlert! system test this morning, the City of Abernathy also conducted a test of the storm warning system. The sirens heard during the test are part of a multi-layered system to alert residents in case of a tornado.
