After halting the construction of Hope Tower at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock for around a year, construction is set to resume within the next 60 days.
Construction was temporarily halted in June of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Covenant Health says in a news release that Hope Tower is a new inpatient tower that will be capable of treating complex orthopedic, trauma, spine and cranial neurosurgery patients. The tower will be 6 stories tall, around 200,000 square feet, and should cost roughly $140 mill to complete.
It is also said to provide an extra 150 beds for Covenant Medical Center upon completion.
Vice President Kelly McDaniel said:
We know how excited the community has been to see this new structure take its place on 19th Street. This new building will help us better serve out community by providing additional needed resources such as beds and an expansion of specialty services.
On top of Hope Tower's construction resuming, renovations are also resuming for the sterile processing department for Covenant Health Plainview. That work began in 2015 with the construction of the James and Eva Mayer Surgical Center and renovations to the radiology department, pharmacy and 3rd floor east wing already completed.
Both Hope Tower and the renovation project in Plainview are part of Covenant Health's $450 million Keeping the Covenant capital improvement campaign.
Hope Tower is expected to be complete in about 2 years.
