I don't mean to be the old lady that screams at kids to get off her lawn, but has anyone else noticed just how many children are running through the South Plains Mall unsupervised? It seems like it's gotten much more chaotic in there over the past couple of years. It's like the mall is just a free babysitter.

I won't lie. I'm definitely guilty of begging to be dropped off there with my pals when I was a kid. If you whine enough, you folks eventually cave, and you get dropped off at the door for a day of tomfoolery. We got into all kinds of dumb trouble. We also rarely spent any money. We weren't ever really there to shop. We were there to get away from our parents, and the bulk of the time, we were up to no good.

I never thought about what that must be like for mall employees. They are spending the day reorganizing products on the shelves after they are messed with, cleaning up spills, and keeping their eyes peeled for shoplifting. It doesn't sound like much fun when you aren't a group of loud teenagers having a ball at their expense.

As of now, there isn't a policy for unattended kids at the mall. It's perfectly okay to drop off your kids and let them roam free. That seems kind of crazy to me, but I imagine it would be pretty hard to stick to a policy for minors running loose in the mall. And, hey, they aren't all causing problems, right?

Have you ever noticed how many kids are running around in there without guardians? Am I just turning into an old crabby lady? Someone tell me I'm not crazy. I can't be the only person that thinks it's a bit of a problem.
