It's that time of year when yards are turning green and trees and flowers are starting to get more color. It's also the time of year when residents of Lubbock start watering their yards and spending more time outside.

The City of Lubbock issued a press release today announcing that Spring and Summer water restrictions would be going into effect on April 1. The restrictions continue through September 30th according to the City of Lubbock.

So when are Lubbock homeowners allowed to water their yard? It depends on your address.

  • Irrigate landscape only during two assigned days per week year-round
  • Irrigation schedules are based on the last digit of the house address:
    • Addresses ending in 0, 3, 4, or 9 – Monday and Thursday
    • Addresses ending in 1, 5, or 6 – Tuesday and Friday
    • Addresses ending in 2, 7, or 8 – Wednesday & Saturday
  • On your scheduled watering days, irrigation is allowed from midnight to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
  • Irrigate less than 1.5 inches per zone per week

The City of Lubbock also restricts watering your yard when it is above 35 degrees outside. The City of Lubbock also discourages water runoff and they ban watering your yard when it raining or snowing outside.

Hand watering is allowed at any time of the day on any day of the week. According to a press release, the City of Lubbock has been engaging in these water restrictions for more than a decade which has lead to a "significant amount" of water being conserved for long-time use in Lubbock.
