City of Lubbock, United Supermarkets Suspend J&J Vaccine

The City of Lubbock and United Supermarkets both announced this morning that they would be following guidance from the United States Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration and pausing the rollout of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

The City of Lubbock Health Department announced that citizens who had been scheduled to get the Johnson and Johnson vaccine will instead be offered the Moderna vaccine.

Likewise, the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at the United Supermarkets Arena on April 15 hosted by United Supermarkets will be shifting to the Moderna vaccine.

The changes come after the FDA and CDC recommended the pause of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine after six cases of rare and severe blood clots were reported among the 6.8 million people who have received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. All six cases occurred in women between the ages of 18 and 48.

If you've already received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, you may want to be aware of the symptoms of CVST just in case, as early detection is the best way to prevent long-lasting damage. Symptoms include:

• Headache
• Blurred vision
• Fainting or loss of consciousness
• Loss of control over movement in part of the body
• Seizures
• Coma

It's also very important to remember that officials have not officially linked anything to these blood clot cases and the cases have been very rare. Officials still encourage citizens to get vaccinated.
