News broke on December 12th, 2022 that Texas Longhorns head coach and former Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard had been arrested in Austin by the Austin Police Department.

Now we have this update from AustinTexas.gov.

On December 12, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) received a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance in the 1900 block of Vista Lane. The caller reported the disturbance was no longer ongoing and one of the individuals had left the house. APD officers responded and located a woman who stated she had been assaulted and strangled by Christopher Michael Beard.

Beard was booked into Travis County Jail. He is charged with Assault by Strangulation/Suffocation - Family Violence, a third degree felony.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. You may submit your tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477.

Beard was later seen by a judge in Travis county and had his bond set at $10,000, which you can watch on the video at the top of his page. The judge also said the release of Beard also came with a protective order against the victim.

In the zoom video of the court proceeding, the judge says the first name of the victim, but the victim has not been confirmed.

The University of Texas also released a statement this morning that they were aware of the situation, but did not say whether or not Chris Beard's job at the University had been affected.

The Longhorns play the Rice Owls tonight.
