On Thursday, January 27th, 41-year-old Casey Owens pleaded guilty to murdering Landon Terry back in 2017.

KAMC News reports that Owens had hidden in the home of his ex-girlfriend the morning of December 27th. The couple had split up because she believed Owens was addicted to crystal meth.

Owens apparently knew that Terry would be coming over that morning. When the woman tried to call for help, Owens allegedly took her phone and pointed a pistol at her.

When Terry arrived, Owens was the one who answered the door. It's said that he shot Terry 4 or 5 times before running off and turning himself in to police the next day. He would eventually post bond to be released.

The woman claims that she and Terry were only Facebook friends, and that she hadn't even met him until after Owens had threatened them.

Owens has been held at the Lubbock County Detention Center since August of 2020. This was when his bond was revoked for crashing an ATV at his home. It's believed that alcohol was involved in the crash, going against the conditions of his release.

Now, Owens faces a maximum penalty of life in prison, but the state is recommending 40 years. If a judge decides on a sentence that is over 40 years, Owens will be allowed to take back his guilty plea.

Owens' sentencing date has been set for Friday, February 4th.
