National Signing Day is always full of surprises, but nothing bigger than star running back Alex Collins failing to show up for his signing ceremony because his mom ran off with his letter of intent.

Collins, a five-star running back from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, announced on Monday that he would leave home to play for Arkansas. However, his Wednesday signing ceremony at his high school was abruptly cancelled. School officials said he just needed more time to think about his decision, but ESPN’s Corey Long reported that Collins’ mother didn’t like the idea of Alex playing so far from home (he turned down offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami) and had “confiscated” his Letter of Intent and left the school grounds. As of press time, neither she nor the Arkansas Letter of Intent had been located.

The 5’11”, 204-pound Collins rushed for 2,915 yards and 38 touchdowns in the last two seasons. Collins is still expected to ultimately sign with Arkansas but, as one source put it, “It’s just going to take some time.”
