According to Lubbock Fire Officials, folks who live in Lubbock County deserve a big "ata-boy" pat on the back because over the 4th holiday weekend the county was free of fire-related blazes. Officials responded to a total of 65 fireworks calls between Thursday and Tuesday. Lubbock County appears to have largely complied with the ban of fireworks for 2011.

Many of the 65 calls turned out to be non-firework issues. The stepped up enforcement seemed to keep the 4th fireworks at bay due to the severe drought. Officials also wanted to remind everyone that just because the 4th is over does not mean that the fireworks ban is finished.

Blaze-on in 2012 we hope.
