"I love you, Chris!"

"I love you too, man!"

This exchange between Chris Stapleton and a jocular male fan at the Grammy winner's sold-out show in Lubbock sums up the night perfectly.

Stapleton played to a completely packed house at the 2,803-seat City Bank Auditorium. The sold-out show was a stripped down, bare-bones affair -- unlike what you'd expect from many modern country shows.

There was no fire erupting from the stage or Ford F150s rising from the ground. No video montages full of guns and tattoos. It was Stapleton, his wife Morgane, a bass player and a drummer. And that's all that was needed to get the entire audience on their feet, hooting and hollering and raising their beers to the cowboy hat-wearing crooner.

The Kentucky-born singer is now a household name, and if his performance Friday night is any indication, he's also now a Lubbock favorite.

Stapleton played several songs off his Grammy Award-winning "Traveller" album, including Tennessee Whiskey, Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore and The Devil Named Music.

The show's highlight came when Stapleton and his wife serenaded each other on their unique rendition of You Are My Sunshine, which they also recorded for the "Southern Family" compilation album.

His wife, however, may have some competition -- judging from that same male fan mentioned above, who later in the show screamed out, "I still love you!"

"I still love you, too," Stapleton replied," adding: "We should get an apartment together."

The crowd laughed.

"Nah, I'm just kidding. We should get a house."

The crowd laughed harder.
