One of my favorite cartoons is Fred Basset, created by Alexander S. Graham. In 1953 Graham wrote one of the world's most lasting lines about aliens, "Take me to your leader". That famous quote led to research on other quotes and learned a few interesting facts.
There's an old superstition that if you walk under a ladder, it will bring you bad luck. A unofficial poll we took on the morning show showed most people...at least our listeners... don't profess to being superstitious. But there are some things, like ladders, that we avoid, just in case there is something to this superstition thing.
I really don't think the weekend can get any more crowded. We've got the Robert Earl Keen concert at the Rattlesnake Roundup Friday night at the Lonestar Amphitheater on East 19th. Friday just happens to be the first day the public can enjoy all the art, music and activities at the 34th annual Lubbock Arts Festival at the Civic Center. Those two events alone are enough to fill your weekend.
One of the most played songs in country music is "Crazy", written and originally sung by Willie Nelson. But it is Patsy Cline's version that most know. In an interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal, Willie says Patsy's husband, Charlie Dick first asked about the song in 1962 in Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.
For over thirty years the Lubbock Arts Festival has entertained hundreds of thousands of adults and children and this year is no different. It opens officially Thursday with Premiere night from 6-9 p.m.
If you go by the Academy of Country Music award presented recently, Lee Brice is one of the best songwriters around. He was co-writer, with Liz Rose, on the winning ACM Song of the Year, "Crazy Girl"( the Eli Young Band).
Keith Urban news shows his recent throat surgery was a success and he's back with better than ever vocals, plus he has a new song out. "For You" was released Monday. Written for the movie "Act of Valor" which features real-life members of the Navy SEALS, the song will be a monetary benefit for the SEALS.
