Despite the warnings, a 28-year-old man climbed into a marina for a swim and suffered severe trauma to one of his limbs.

From the Associated Press story in the Washington Press, Orange, Texas police reported Tommie Woodward was attacked in the marina on the Sabine River near the Louisiana state line.

According to the report, Woodward was with with a woman at the time. He jumped in and was bitten almost immediately. The woman screamed for help. Authorities found his body nearby two hours later.

The report says the marina owners has spotted alligators in the past and put up a sign to warm people to stay out of the water. The gator that killed Woodward was longer than 11 feet long.

Authorities are not actively hunting the gator, but a private effort may be put in place to capture it.
