Killeen, Texas will be closing city hall and several other offices will also be locked up next week as many employees in Killeen will be celebrating Juneteenth. Both local and federal facilities will be closed as the Lone Star State recognizes the significance of the Juneteenth holiday that originated in our beloved Texas.

This year, Juneteenth is on a Thursday, so one week from today you will not be able to stop by a city utility office, bank, post office, and many other businesses like my wife's employer will also be closed so that staff can celebrate the significance of an event that occurred on the beaches of Galveston exactly 160 years prior.

Even though city hall and other offices are closed for Juneteenth, the parks and aquatics facilities throughout the city will be open for enjoyment, and if you are someone fortunate enough to have the day off from work or take the day off, the local swimming pool will be a great way to celebrate with your family.

If you are interested in official activities for the day, you are invited to the Killeen E-Center for a full day of activities that will entertain the whole family. Available from 3 PM to 8 PM will be exhibits, a fashion show, variety of food options and mobile kitchens showcasing cuisine that complements the theme of "We the Culture."
