House Bill 274 Would Give Texas Control Over District Of Austin

One of the biggest complaints we often hear from fellow Texans is how much we dislike the amount of government there already is, and even more so how much we particularly do not like the Federal Government always trying to tell us how we should run our own state. Well, now it appears our state representatives are trying to set their self up to be able to tell Austin how to run itself.

New Texas Law Would Allow State Extra Control Over Austin

According to this KVUE article, House Bill 274 would allow Austin to still make their own laws, and govern how they see fit, but if the bill moves forward and eventually becomes an amendment to the state's constitution, Austin would be reclassified as the District of Austin, and the state government would have the freedom to rescind or rewrite any laws they determine to be in need of adjustment.

There are plenty of residents in Austin that are in favor of such an amendment, but removing the autonomy of Austin to self govern does raise plenty of questions and concerns. In my opinion, the cities of Texas, including Austin, should not be allowed to pass laws that directly conflict with state laws, but the state also should put its faith in the people to make decisions for their self, like who they elect and the laws those representatives make.

New Austin Super Tower Will Be The Tallest Building in Texas by 20 Feet

Currently, the title of the tallest building in Austin goes to The Independent, and the tallest in the state is the JPMorgan Chase Tower in downtown Houston.

This new structure will better those by 300 feet and 20 feet respectively -- and bring the title of "Texas' Tallest Building" to the Capital of the Lone Star State.
