Good News for Austin Food Trucks: New Inspection Rules Start Now

Food trucks are a wonderful thing to have in Texas aren't they? Whenever you're feeling peckish, they can help out in a pinch. But to make sure that the trucks themselves are safe to make and serve food, they have to go through inspections, especially in Austin.

Where Did Austin Food Trucks Have To Go For Inspections?

For all food trucks in the city of Austin, they needed to go north in the city to make sure everything was in top shape, as revealed by KXAN. While this was of course needed, it took time and effort to get to the area, and resulted in a loss of money for the truck. So, it was a little bit annoying to get everything ready for inspection.

As time went on, questions were raised as to how to make the process less intensive or possibly easier. When food truck owners were polled, a major amount, 92% as reported by KXAN, wanted inspections to be where the truck was. Thankfully, those concerns were heard.

When Can Food Trucks Get Inspections Without Having To Move Their Business?

KXAN spoke to Rod Ferriol, owner of Los Galanes Birria, who was very happy with the chance to get a inspection right where his truck is, rather than having to pack up an travel:

“Doing the inspections on site — for me, it makes sense”

Krista Laine, District 6 Council Member, also said of the change:

“Food trucks are an important part of our culinary diversity...I’m so grateful it’ll be easier for our local business and food truck owners to get inspections.”

So, hopefully, more food trucks in Austin will be able to stay open longer and not leave their area while getting inspected.
