College Football Weekend Preview: A Rematch and Surprising Pairing

Another great weekend of college football is here! A rematch of last year's National Championship game, the south's oldest rivalry and a surprising new east vs. west matchup highlights this weekend's slate.

Starting off, we have a ACC match-up at Berkley, Calif. Yes the ACC stands for Atlantic Coast Conference, but this one is going down on the West Coast as the University of Cal-Berkley welcomes in the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami, ranked No. 8, heads to Cal for an important non-conference battle. Miami has been strong this season, led by a high-octane offense, while Cal's defense has struggled. If Cal can disrupt Miami’s rhythm, it could turn into a surprise upset. This one gets started at 3:30PM ET Saturday on ESPN and is the site of this week's College Gameday.

Also at 3:30PM ET over on ABC we have the south's oldest rivalry, as UGA heads into Jordan Hare Stadium looking to rebound after their heart-stopping loss against Alabama. This classic SEC rivalry pits No. 5 Georgia against Auburn. Georgia's defense has been dominant, while Auburn, facing a tough season with up and down QB play, will need a big offensive effort to stay competitive. Georgia looks to continue its playoff push, while Auburn aims for an upset in hostile territory.

In the evening, you will need the streaming service of Peacock to see the rematch of last year's National Championship game, Michigan at Washington. It's set for a 7:30PM kickoff on Peacock. Both teams have new head coaches, adding intrigue to this Big Ten clash. Michigan's defense is solid, but Washington’s dynamic passing game could exploit their secondary. Expect a physical, high-stakes game with playoff implications.

Other good games include two top teams looking to avoid trap games. Iowa and their tough-as-nails defense take on Ohio State and their high flying offense at 3:30PM Eastern. Ohio State has a Top 10 matchup next week against Oregon, but the Hawkeyes will be a tough test. Later on at 7:30PM on ABC, fourth-ranked Tennessee will be at Arkansas,. A night game in the SEC is always tough, especially with rival Florida on the schedule next week.
