You’ll Never Believe Which Texas City Was Named A “Trending” Winter Travel Destination
When you think of winter travel destinations, there probably aren't many cities in Texas that you think of as top destinations. That is of course unless you are looking at attempting to get away from the snow, ice, and cold temperatures. Then, Texas, at least some parts of Texas might make sense.
Recently, Airbnb put out a 2024 Winter Release highlight page. This is where Airbnb highlights where people are looking to travel in within and outside of the United States. Under the section "Trending Winter Domestic Destinations" one city really stood out.
Lubbock, Texas.
That's right. The Hub City is officially a "trending winter domestic destination" according to Airbnb. And I know what you are thinking... why?
I think it has less to do about winter and more about something else that happens in Lubbock this time of year. College sports, including football and basketball. Here are the other cities that made the list besides Lubbock according to Airbnb.
Indianapolis, Indiana
South Bend, Indiana
Blacksburg, Virginia
Oxford, Mississippi
Auburn, Alabama
Iowa City, Iowa
Indio, California
State College, Pennsylvania
Tacoma, Washington
Most of the cities on the list also have big time college sports this time of year and into the winter. Besides Lubbock, I wouldn't consider South Bend, Oxford, or even Tacoma as a top winter destination. But add in a little college sports, and I can see how that would work.
But of course Lubbock does have mild winters and you probably won't run into a blizzard outside of Dairy Queen here. So maybe Lubbock should be a trending winter destination.
