Hot Weather Will Stick Around The South Plains for a While
While most of July was actually pretty pleasant compared to what we have seen and felt in previous years, those comfortable temperatures are long gong and instead it's time for the summer heat to get turned up across the South Plains and most of Texas.
The End of July, the Start of August
If you thought it was hot this week, just wait. July and into August is typically the hottest time of the year around the South Plains and a quick look at the forecast shows that for at least the next 10 days, expect hot temperatures and very little rainfall.
High temperatures this weekend are expected to be just below one hundred degrees with Saturday's high temperature at about 99 degrees. Sunday high temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 90's.
Sunny skies and high's just below 100 degrees are expected for our area through early August according to the National Weather Service.
Keeping Kids Safe in the Heat
Texas DSHS recommends these tips to keep kids safe during hot months:
- Never leave a child alone in the car, even if it's running with A/C on
- Always check the back seat before exiting your vehicle
- Never assume it won't happen to your children
- Place your wallet or phone in the back seat to force yourself to check after parking the car
- Keep your car locked at all times and the keys away from children
- Call 911 right away if you see a young child alone in a parked car
