Wolfforth Ditches the Boom for a Drone Light Show
Is it time for drones to replace fireworks? They’ve done just that in one small West Texas town.
You won’t find a fireworks hater here. I love fireworks. I love the flash, the sparks, the explosions—and I’ll even admit I’m a fan of the smell of freshly fired fireworks. I think fireworks are always going to have a place in our culture.
Even though I’m “Team Fireworks,” I’ve watched in fascination as drone technology has expanded. There are incredible pictures that can be painted in the skies with drones, and all of it has a future/Blade Runner/"the future is now" vibe to it.

You would think that it would be just the bigger cities that have this technology available to put on a noteworthy drone show. If that was ever the case, then things are definitely trickling down.
Wolfforth’s First-Ever Drone Show
Wolfforth, Texas traditionally does a “4th on the 5th” celebration, and this year is no different. What is changing is that this year will be their first-ever drone show.
Reactions to the announcement have been predictably mixed. The city has taken a somewhat apologetic tone, and I have no idea why. There are nearby fireworks shows at Buffalo Springs Lake, the Lubbock Country Club (I guess this one’s meant to be a secret), and at Lubbock’s Mackenzie Park. It’s not like residents of the area don’t have options.
Hopefully, Wolfforth will ignore the critics and be proud of the fact that they are offering something truly different for Independence Day weekend.
Just to give you an example of the things that can done, here's a gallery from an event called "Halloween In Sky".
