This will mark the third day in a row I have written about this, and it turns out that I may have been correct on day one.

Where We Were

If you haven't heard, the organization known as Broadway Festivals announced that they would not be producing 4th On Broadway this year. As I pointed out then, they said that "THEY" would not be producing the festival this year. I knew there was some reason for couching the announcement that way. I suppose I could reach out to my friends with Broadway Festivals and see what the problem is or was, but I feel like if they wanted it known, they would have announced it.

Where We're At

Now the Mayor has gotten involved telling a media source that the City is doing what it can to make sure we have an event. "Event" may be a big word to use though, because it seems that the main focus is the parade and hopefully a fireworks display (I noticed a lot of the talk was about making it big for 2026, which seems like they're already apologizing for this years event).

Where We're Going

Apparently the City will be leaning on Civic Lubbock in some shape or form to pull this off. Oh, and this get's better, Civic Lubbock's budget for special events, like this one, was just cut 24%. Imagine if you're budget was cut by a 1/4 then something this big was put on your plate!

Where We'll Be

So it sounds like we may have some kind of behind the scenes dispute here and the first thing that may get left out is the music tents, which were pretty much the reason that Don Caldwell put on the event for 34 years. I'm personally at the point where I don't know if all of this is confusing, or just plain embarrassing. Somebody fumbled this ball, bigtime. I guess something may be happening on the 4th of July, but no matter what it is called, the 4th On Broadway you know and loved is dead.
