I guess there is just ugliness everywhere.

What's Happening?

Right now football players from all over are deciding about their future.  Notice that whole part about "deciding about their future". This may be their only time to get paid or even get a scholarship. Some of these players are also taking care of family, and there are some that trade for more playing time, or for whatever reason they just don't get along with their coaches.

The Reactions

If you want to see the absolute ugliness of college sports, then just look under the comments when a Texas Tech players enters the transfer portal. The comments start with "Good Riddance!" and kind of go downhill from there. I really don't want to use other quotes, link to them, or be involved in this nonsense in any way. What I do want to say is, "You do realize that the kids coming in, and people considering it see those comments too, right?"  This pure hatefulness just has to stop, and it's probably time for the good Tech fans to start calling the bad ones out, or at least not participate in discussions that have turned toward the negative.

Try On Their Cleats

Before anyone runs off to the internet to spread more hate there, how many of you would turn down a better job and/or better working conditions? Like it or not, this is what college sports is for many of these kids.  Even before there was a little cash involved, some of these kids just wanted to be closer to home, to see new things, or or go where they can better appreciated.

Just Be Nice

So how about we start establishing a standard where we says, "Thank you so much for visiting, I'm sorry it didn't work out"? It's really easier to be nice than it is to be so mean. We can do better than so many of these fair-weather fans out there (that's what you are if you only love them when they're here) It really benefits no one to be hateful in these situations. No one will not leave because some armchair quarterbacks will slam them on social media. If nothing else, maybe we should just focus all that energy on making the ones here feel at home.
