Wal-Mart Broccoli And Holiday Chocolate Latest In Texas FDA Recalls
Another day, another recall. It seems like there are more recalls than ever, or perhaps we are simply hearing about them more often.
Recalls are important to alert the public to foods that may host deadly organisms, have deadly undeclared allergens, or in the case of potato salad last year- have chunks of plastic that could cause choking.
The latest FDA recalls include broccoli sold at Wal-Mart stores and holiday-shaped chocolates that have an undeclared allergen.
The Good, The Bad, And The Broccoli
Braga Fresh broccoli- sold at Texas Walmart stores as "Market Fresh" has been voluntarily recalled for potential Listeria contamination. Particularly concerning since this broccoli is marketed as "washed and ready to eat."
Listeria is a pathogen that is dangerous to children, the elderly, and the medically frail and can cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
However, the one batch that is being recalled is already well past its "best if used by date," however, some thrifty consumers could have frozen the product for later use. If that sounds like you, check your broccoli:
The specific product involved are 12oz bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores identified by having a UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on back of bag, with Best if Used by Date Dec 10, 2024, and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on front of bag.
Here's that bag front:
Happy Holidays- Who Still Has Chocolate Laying Around?
The next recall is for folks who show a lot of restraint. If you haven't gobbled up all your Christmas chocolate yet, you may want to double-check it if you are allergic to tree nuts.
Tree nut allergies can be very severe, leading to extreme allergic reactions and even death, so this recall should be taken seriously if you are allergic to cashews.
Gardners Candies brand Cappuccino Meltaway® Bars may contain undeclared cashews. These chocolates were sold in retailers nationwide and online.
The recalled Gardners Candies brand Cappuccino Meltaway Bars are packaged in a 1.25 ounce (35g), white plastic package marked with lot # 082725 stamped along the side which also serves as the expiration date 08/27/25. This product can also be found in Gardners Meltaway Treat Box marked with lot # 101625 or 112525.
Luckily, no illnesses have been reported from the candies. Here's what they look like:
