You can move to Lubbock knowing absolutely zero about the city, and somehow, a couple of years later, you'll find yourself absolutely surrounded by things that make perfect sense to anybody from the Hub City.

That's how you know you've become part of the squad.

Here are 7 things I'd put money on you eventually owning:

1. A Texas Tech T-Shirt

Honestly, it's more like 7 of them.

They will end up in your closet whether you went to Tech or not.

They are basically part of our local uniform.

2. Something That Involves Buddy Holly

Whether it's a magnet, a coffee mug, a poster, or a shirt, you're bound to eventually acquire some type of Buddy Holly memorabilia.

3. A Prairie Dog Thing

Statue. Stuffed animal. Souvenir. Decoration of some sort. It'll happen. Just wait.

Prairie dogs are our tiny little local icons around here.

Hell, you might even have one living in your backyard.

4. Something From a Local Artist

We've got so many fantastic local artists, and The First Friday Art Trail is incredibly popular around these parts.

Sooner or later, you'll have a photograph, painting, print, or some type of media from a local artist.

5. A Koozie From A Lubbock Restaurant

I've got a drawer full of them.

Who knows where they came from?

If you don't have a designated drawer for them now, you will.

6. Something With A Windmill On It

We've got a billion windmills around here.

Two of my friends even have windmill tattoos.

A windmill will make it onto something you own, one way or another.

7. An Absurd Amount of Lubbock Pride

You're going to complain about this place along with the rest of us, but you're also going to defend it like crazy when it comes down to it.

You may not think so now, but trust me.

Some day, you'll be defending this place like you're the self-appointed mayor.

And I think that's when you officially become one of us!
