Most of us are making New Year's resolutions- I have resolved to read 52 books in 2025. Ambitious? Yes. Nerdy? Also yes.

Whatever your New Year's resolution is, you can ruin it immediately by driving drunk tonight. So it's important that if you are planning on drinking outside your home tonight, you have a safe and sober ride home.

Yes, an Uber will be pricey tonight, but it's always cheaper than getting arrested and it's exponentially more affordable than you're funeral will be. Yes, I went there.

There are other solutions besides Uber (which will be slammed) including having a designated driver with you (God bless sober friends) or you can schedule your safe sober and FREE ride with Citibus!

How Does It Work?

Rides are free from tonight at 8:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. within Lubbock city limits. You will need to download the GoPass app and schedule your ride.

With such a broad time range, you could schedule both your drop-off and pick-up free through Citibus. Now that's an incredible service.

These rides will likely book up fast, so I'd recommend you schedule them asap to secure your ride. Otherwise, budget for that Uber!

There is also one other solution- start Dry January a day early. Many bars and clubs offer delicious mocktails or you could always sip on a Topo or a Coke. You could be that designated driver hero for your friends- or just your own safe ride home.

It is possible to have a great time sober- and then you don't start the New Year with a hangover.

And as a friendly reminder- if any of your friends choose not to drink tonight, remember that the reason is none of your business and that you should never, ever pressure someone to drink or to explain why they've chosen not to- it's incredibly rude.
